"Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves."

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul." ~John Muir-Father of the National Park and Sierra Club Co-Founder

These two quotes from John Muir resonate with me. John believed and so do I, getting outside in nature is healing and the best medicine for keeping your body, mind and spirit healthy. There is a slew of research that suggest that getting out of doors can improve your overall health, especially your mental wellbeing. It is all connected, healthy mind and body go together.

If you are close to me, you know the mental health challenges my family and I have overcome and getting outside has been a huge way I unwind and nurture my body and soul. Climbing a mountain, kayaking, biking, yoga on the beach…if we are friends, undoubtedly, I've convinced you to join me on an outdoor adventure or two, and that is why.

As a new and enthusiastic member of the MHC's Development committee, I am impressed by the organization and the work they do, and I am excited to help them in their 110th year.

Since 1908, MHC has been a leading voice in advocating for improved, expanded, and accessible mental health service. MHC's efforts have helped countless individuals with mental health conditions achieve whole health and wellness.

With continued state budget cuts on the horizon, MHC needs your help now more than ever.

I would be ever so grateful if you chose to join me in supporting MHC's #Be1of110 campaign. Every little bit makes a difference. Namaste and I hope you find what brings you joy and go there often.

"I was inspired to become a champion for Mental Health Connecticut after learning about the organization in March from my friend and MHC Board Chair, Kim Sirois Pita. I was seeking a new volunteer opportunity and given the many world events relating to mental health, my personal challenges and trauma associated with growing up with a bi-polar/schizophrenic father and kicking my depression in the ass since being hospitalized and misdiagnosed at age 28, I knew in my gut, joining the MHC Development Committee and becoming a 'Be1of110' champion was the perfect way to help make a difference."

"Knowing the challenges my family had surrounding my father's illness and overcoming my own struggle with depression, the advocacy, education and services MHC provides spoke to me and I wanted to help them by raising money, so they can achieve their mission of improving mental health for all Connecticut residents."

#WhatMovesYou? "I have overcome my own depression with daily physical movement, meditation, GETTING OUTSIDE and laughter! Yoga, walking, personal training, biking, hiking, kayaking and connecting with the natural world through these activities helps keep my mind, body and spirit connected. I take advantage of living on the sound in Milford and every chance I get I walk or bike along the water. The smells, sounds and sights of the beach soothe my soul and remind me of a universal connection to something greater."
