$1,089 towards $1,000

MHC has been around for 110 years. Their trusted services influence our community and they continue to make positive strides in breaking stigma, helping those in need, and advocating for each and every one of us so we have access to the care and supports we need. In a time where the state of CT keeps cutting funding to health and human services, they need our help! Donate and make a difference!

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Mental Health Connecticut and its health and wellness programs. Mental health is just as important as physical health and it's time we started talking about it. I started this fundraiser because I believe in the impact MHC has on the state of Connecticut and I want to see them do more for health and wellness for our community. They need the funds to do it.

My family and friends have been affected by the lack of access to services and the negative stigma associated with a mental health condition. There are people missing from my life because they could not or would not get the help they desperately needed to function and stay alive. We need to break the stigma. We need to talk about mental health as easily we talk about physical health. They are equally important and the time for change is now. Your donation will help to make this change happen.

#Be1of110 spotlight Jacquilyn Davis – MHC Marketing and Development Coordinator

Jacquilyn Ann was born and raised in Bloomfield, CT and currently lives in central Connecticut. She is the Marketing and Development Coordinator for Mental Health Connecticut and joined MHC in January of 2015. "I enjoy reading, watching movies, spending quality time with my dog Papi, and enjoying time with friends and family. A fun fact about me is that I started working with nonprofits at the age of 15. I planned my very first charity event as a member of the National Honors Society in High School. It was a holiday party to benefit children in DCF. Each child received a gift donated by members of the society and our community. We did holiday crafts, played music, and ate sugar cookies. It was a small event, but after seeing the smiles on those kids faces, I knew my place was in the nonprofit sector."

"As the Marketing and Development Coordinator, I was on the team who created the #Be1of110 Campaign. We put a lot of passion and energy into creating our anniversary campaign and I wanted to lead the charge by being the first Champion to sign up! I hope to make a big impact to our goal with my December fundraising event (details to come!)."

#WhatMovesYou? "I was diagnosed with depression as a young adult. Every day is an adventure and a challenge that I'm fortunate to be here for. I know that my journey will continue to have obstacles, but I will continue to forge ahead and enjoy the moments that inspire me to get up every day. The ups and downs of my life have helped me to empathize and relate to others with similar experiences. I encourage those in my life to be open about what's going on emotionally, physically, and mentally. It's all connected and all deserving of attention, conversation, and care."

Jackie credits her biggest success story to finding her way to Mental Health Connecticut and being able to use this platform to openly talk about her experience with depression. "I've found so many people here (staff, volunteers, supporters) who advocate and educate the public by sharing their personal stories. I'm learning to be more open and contributing my experiences with the hope that it will inspire someone else to do the same. With every voice that breaks the silence – we can break the stigma."

With every voice that breaks the silence – we can break the stigma. "This is a phrase I created after seeing the impact that a simple conversation can make in someone's life. The more we bring the conversation to the surface and have educated conversations, the more we will shift the discussion from "taboo" to accepted;"
