Let’s Face It, Together

Let’s face it, the past two years have been intense. While we have more to learn and understand, especially with our mental health, MHC believes those challenges will be a lot less scary if we face them together.

Early prevention is critical to caring for one’s mental health. But, how can we prevent something that feels invisible or unreachable? Stigma can be an invisible force that directly affects our wellbeing, leads to discrimination, and creates division.

For Mental Health Awareness Month in May 2022, MHC wanted to understand the impact of stigma and how others find ways to heal and move forward. Why stigma? Stigma is pervasive. Stigma shows up in many forms. Stigma can prevent us from seeking help and support. And, we know that stigma loses its power if we face it head on.

That’s why we created the Let's Face It campaign. In May we invite you to follow us for 31 days as we meet 31 unique Connecticut residents. Together, let’s get to know some familiar and unfamiliar faces a little better. Each day in May, you will meet a new face and a new lived experience, because #LetsFaceIt there is no one-sized fits all when it comes to our wellbeing.

Our goal for this campaign is to inspire other Connecticut residents to reach out and seek support from the people and places they feel safest. Central to our mission is partnering with individuals, families, and communities to create environments that support long-term health and wellness. Connecticut may be small in size, but we believe it’s mighty in its potential to create an environment where the condition of being human takes center stage, and health equity is a top priority for all residents.

If you or someone you know is looking for resources or support in Connecticut but don’t know where to start, contact MHC's information and referral line.

Help Us Raise Funds for Write On!

As we bust stigma we ask that you help Write On!, a program designed to help individuals find their truth and share their story. The University of Hartford’s Center for Social Research studied the Write On! program and found that “Self-stigma undermines the recovery process. Interventions targeting self-stigmatizing beliefs can potentially break the chain of negative events. The Write On! Workshop, hosted by Mental Health Connecticut, is one such intervention.”

Join us by setting up a personal or company fundraising page today by clicking "Start Fundraiser" and help us support this amazing program!

On behalf of MHC and the many people who will be touched by your gift, thank you for choosing to help change and inspire lives.

We'd also like to thank Janet Reynolds, MHC’s creator of Write On!, and Cara Paiuk of Face Forward Headshots for their brilliant work behind the scenes!
